On April 15 – 17, TruView President Nick Auletta and Managing Director Lisa Worgull attended the 2018 NAPBS Mid-Year Legislative & Regulatory Conference. Conducted by the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), the conference focuses on regulatory, legislative, and compliance hot topics and best practices in the background screening industry.

The conference draws over 400 participants, comprised of owners and employees of background screening firms, those who provide products and services to background screening firms, and others in the profession. Attendees include CEOs, compliance officers, managers, general counsel, and other employees representing a range of small to large firms.

There was a wide array of general and plenary sessions over three days of learning and networking. Sessions covered litigation trends in the salary history ban movement; data retention, disposal, and security issues; driving records compliance; cross-border transfer requirements in an out of the United States; social media background screening; insurance compliance risks; ban-the-box compliance and enforcement trends; and best practices for complying with the Federal Trade Commission Act; and many other topics. Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) certification courses and professional networking groups are an important part of the schedule.

TruView’s compliance model is comprehensive, with multiple layers and redundancies, addressing federal, state, and local regulations and industry best practices. The company stays current through NAPBS and other industry sources, and continually tests and assesses compliance methodologies to achieve the highest Client responsiveness.
